Krate was established in 2016 and is the leading art community platform and first independent theatre company in Melaka.
THE SPACE
The space was intended to welcome the creative community to collaborate in performing art projects and workshops.
THE CAFE
During the Covid-19 pandemic (2020), Krate Cafe was established with the aim of combining food and live theatre performance in the future.
THE EVENTS
Krate host and organize events, festivals and shows with the help of collaborators across all platforms.

"Crazy Rich Asians" of Millionaire's Row (Heeren Mansion)!
Featuring John Chua, the most Eligible Bachelor in town, who is hosting an exclusive, private house-warming party at Heeren Mansion and only elites high society, such as yourself, are invited. But, what seems like a glamorous soiree turns into a scandalous affair.

THE CASE OF THE MISSING DIAMOND
Audiences are invited to a Chiah Lang Khek, a Big Birthday Party hosted by the notable Chong family. As the celebration unravels, a tragedy strikes and a precious diamond goes missing! Follow the characters as the story unfolds and try to solve the crime!
This show is limited to 30 pax per show, it brings audiences back in time and invites them to be part of the story.

2022: THE BEST NYONYA, AN INTERACTIVE MINI MUSICAL, RIUH NAU MELAKA FESTIVAL
Written and directed and acted by Wee Shyre May, "The Best Nyonya" was intended for Riuh Nau, @riuhinthecity. One of Malaysia's largest and well known pop- up festival.
This immersive theatre was part of the main act and has successfully brought in more than a thousand viewers for each night.
It tells a tale of 17 year-old Neo Lin, who only has 3 days to become "The Best Nyonya" so that she can marry the son of the wealthy Madam Chong!
This heartwarming musical is engaging and interactive. It is filled with familiar tunes from the peranakan culture as well as original songs.

After an overwhelming response, the show was restaged, but this time in collaboration with Heritage Flavors. A Peranakan themed restaurant owned by the well-known Chee Family. The sold out show was extremely immersive, with audiences dressing up and the Peranakan food served. Actors were going around introducing themselves to elevate the mood even futher.

Since 2016, Krate Creative Space has conducted more than 120 workshops in total. These workshops are for companies, individuals and also children. We are known for unique themed based holiday programs, adult teambuilding and weekly drama classes.
